Privacy Policy

Cadre is built by Something Punny, LLC. We do not operate a contact server and cannot access your contact library. This policy explains Cadre's on-device processing, user-controlled exports, and optional iCloud backups.

The short version

Your contacts stay yours. Cadre works entirely on your device, with no accounts, tracking, or Cadre servers. If you choose automatic backups, they’re saved privately to your iCloud—we never receive or have access to them.

What Cadre accesses

Cadre reads from and writes to Apple's built-in Contacts database using the Contacts framework (CNContactStore). This is the same database used by the Apple Contacts app. Health scoring, duplicate detection, field validation, formatting suggestions, and supported Apple Intelligence features run on your device. Cadre creates local recovery files and backup archives only for the backup, restore, import, export, and rollback features described here.

What Something Punny does not receive

Something Punny does not receive, access, sell, or use:

• Your contact names, notes, emails, phone numbers, addresses, or photos
• Your backup and export files
• Usage data or behavioral analytics
• Device identifiers
• Advertising or tracking data
• Crash reports (unless you have opted in to sharing diagnostics with Apple through your device settings)

Backups and exports

Cadre backups can contain contact names, phone numbers, email addresses, postal addresses, notes, photos, VCard data, CSV review data, and backup metadata. Cadre uses these files only to let you back up, restore, import, export, or recover contact changes.

During onboarding and export, Cadre presents Apple's Files interface so you choose where to save the file. Choosing iCloud Drive or another file provider sends the file to that provider under your account.

Settings also offers backups in Cadre's iCloud Drive folder. Manual backups occur only when you tap Back Up after Cadre identifies the destination. Automatic iCloud Backups are off by default and begin only after you accept a disclosure describing the data, destination, purpose, and retention. Something Punny cannot access files in your private iCloud Drive.

Cadre retains the latest 30 unpinned automatic backups. Turning Automatic Backups off stops new automatic backups but does not delete existing files. You can review and delete saved backups in Settings > Backups > Restore Backup. Manually exported files remain until you delete them from Files or the selected provider.

Optional network features

Two features make limited network requests. Both are opt-in during onboarding and can be disabled at any time in Settings > Enhancements.

Address verification

When enabled, Cadre uses Apple's location services to verify and standardize postal addresses. Requests go to Apple's servers — no third-party geocoding services are involved. No contact data beyond the specific address being verified is included in the request.

Website icons

When enabled, Cadre fetches favicon images directly from websites listed in your contacts' URL fields. Each request goes to the website itself. No contact data is included — only the domain is accessed.

iCloud sync

Cadre uses Apple's iCloud Key-Value Storage to sync a small set of app preferences, such as favorites and dismissed suggestions, across your devices. This data contains internal identifiers and settings, not contact names, notes, phone numbers, email addresses, postal addresses, or photos. Optional iCloud backups are separate and contain the contact data described in Backups and exports. Both services use Apple's infrastructure under your iCloud account. You can disable Cadre's iCloud access in device settings.

Third-party services

Cadre does not integrate third-party analytics, advertising, tracking, or AI services. Apple services and any file provider you deliberately select handle data according to their own terms and privacy policies.

Data retention and deletion

Something Punny has no customer contact database to retain or delete. Your contacts remain in Apple Contacts. Deleting Cadre removes its local settings and caches, but it does not delete contact records, files you exported, or backups already stored in iCloud Drive or another provider. Delete those files in Cadre's Saved Backups screen or the Files app.

Children's privacy

Cadre is not directed to children and does not create user accounts, serve advertising, or send contact data to Something Punny. The backup, export, and optional network behavior described above is the same for every user.

Government and legal requests

Something Punny cannot produce contact data or backup files it does not possess. Requests involving data held by Apple or another file provider are governed by that provider's policies.

Your rights

You control contact access in system Settings, optional network features in Cadre Settings, and backup files through Cadre and Files. You can disable future automatic backups and delete existing backup files at any time. Contact us if you have a privacy question or request involving Something Punny.

App Store privacy label

Cadre's App Store privacy information states “Data Not Collected.” Under Apple's definition, data is collected when it is transmitted off-device in a way that lets the developer or an integrated third-party partner access it beyond servicing the request. Cadre's private iCloud Drive documents are accessible only through the user's Apple Account, not by Something Punny or an integrated third party. Cadre does not use contact data for tracking or advertising.

Changes to this policy

If Cadre changes how it handles data, we will update this policy and its effective date. A new off-device use of protected data will require an updated in-app disclosure and consent before it begins.
